Don’t Risk A Slow Reentry To The US
If you have Global Entry and you’re spending a significant chunk of time living abroad, there are two things you should make sure are current in your Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) account.
First: Update Your TTP Account With Your Foreign Address
If you’re enrolled in Global Entry and you’re planning to live abroad you need to make sure your Trusted Traveler profile stays up to date.
Global Entry is run by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The information in your profile becomes the official identity record the system uses when you reenter the United States. When something changes like a new passport, a move overseas or a residency permit, it’s important to keep your information updated so the system recognizes you correctly when you do return to the US.
When you have your permanent address in Spain and your TIE card (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero), the Spanish residency card, you need to update your information with Global Entry. You’ll add your Spanish address and residency card information to your Global Entry profile. It keeps your travel record consistent with your actual living situation. If you maintain a US mailing address, you’ll want to make sure that stays part of your record so everything remains clear in the system.
Second: Update Your TTP Account With Your Current Passport(s)
Keeping your passport information current is just as important. Global Entry is tied directly to the passport stored in your profile. If you renew or replace your passport, update the number in your account so the kiosk recognizes you when you return to the US.
If you also hold a second US passport that passport should also be added to your Trusted Traveler profile. Once both passports are on file, you can enter the U.S. using either one and the Global Entry kiosk will recognize it. Taking a few minutes to keep the profile accurate ensures that the next time you land in the U.S., the process remains quick and seamless.
