Learning Spanish As Expats

How We’re Planning to Learn Spanish As Expats

One of the first things when we get to Spain is to become more fluent in Spanish. We’re planning on going to language school, use apps and online resources to stay consistent. But to really be successful for the long term, we know a lot of that learning is going to have to be immersion—living day to day in Spain.

We know that just living in Spain doesn’t automatically make you fluent. Where we’re moving has residents from all over the EU and US. It can become a crutch to just keep speaking English, because early social connections will probably be other expats that use English. We need to push ourselves to be in somewhat uncomfortable situations where most people will only speak Spanish to help us learn quickly.

Helpful Guidance From Spain Speaks

As we’ve been our journey to relocate to Spain, we’ve found a lot of helpful information from Stuart at Spain Speaks. He covers a lot of topics across a wide range of topics about being an expat in Spain. Recently, he posted a couple of videos on learning Spanish as an expat, once you get to Spain. Take a look. He’s spot on. And check out his other videos as well.
