Heating and Cooling Systems in Spain: What’s Different From the US

Heating, cooling and hot water all work differently in a Spanish home than they do in the US. It's worth understanding how, before you're standing in a property trying to figure out what you're actually looking at.

There's usually no central furnace and ductwork. Air conditioning often does double duty as the heating system. Hot water frequently comes from a small unit that heats on demand rather than a tank quietly keeping 50 gallons warm in the garage. None of it is worse, it's just different. Our Second House Hunting Trip

Our second house hunting trip is complete. This trip was primarily to look at a wide range of house types in different neighborhoods throughout the Jávea and Denia area. Next Jávea Househunting Trip

One of us has to be in the general “neighborhood” for a work-related meeting in early February, so we decided to tack on a few days and go back to Jávea so we can spend time househunting. Let the House Hunting in Spain Begin!

House hunting in Spain starts with getting to know the area, and this trip was our first chance to spend time on the Costa Blanca. We’ve been to Spain many times, but never to this part of the country, so this visit was all about seeing neighborhoods, meeting with an agent, and getting a sense of daily life. We began the trip in Barcelona since it’s an easy summer flight from San Francisco. It also gave us a chance to stop at one of our favorite restaurants, Cañete. The next morning, we drove the four hours toward Valencia.
